Elbjazz 2013: Saturday
Saturday was a cold, windy and rainy day, but the guys from Budzillus played such feel-good music that the crowd forgot all about the weather and everybody enjoyed themselves to the fullest.
Meanwhile in the Fischauktionshalle The Bad Plus were serving up fine contemporary scandinavian jazz.
They were followed up by The Roger Cicero Jazz Experience and the hall was filled up to the brim again.
For a change of pace we moved to the Holzhafen Atrium and experienced a really great concert by Christoph Stiefel’s Inner Language Trio. We even learned some jazz theory from his explanation of iso-rhythms.
Next up we wanted to see Miss 600, but the club was full, so we joined Trilok Gurtu and Ibrahim Maalouf for an hour of magical music. Trilok was brilliant as well as funny and entertaining, and his fine trumpeters awed the audience.
Next step: mono punk with Tim Rodig featuring Jennifer Kay: electrifying rhythms served as basis for funky and melodic improvisations.
Well after midnight Jan Bang remixed some of the sounds of Elbjazz 2013 in a worthy closing concert with a fabulous stage lighting.
